(Worthy News) – The Satanic Temple (TST) organization has opened a second telehealth facility to provide “religious abortion services” following the US Supreme Court’s revocation of the federal right to abortion, the Christian Post (CP) reports.
Based in Salem, Massachusetts, TST describes itself as “a non-theistic organization and new religious movement.” According to TST, abortion is a religious right and is part of the “destruction ritual that serves as a protective rite.”
TST’s new telehealth abortion facility is in Virginia and will operate 24 hours a day, CP reports. TST will be working with the Honey Bee Health online pharmacy in this effort. Women wanting an abortion will be charged for abortion pills but the organization may help with travel costs through its donors.
In a statement to the Christian Post, TST’s executive director Erin Helian said: “Our staff virtually meet with each patient over a series of online visits to ensure the safety of each patient, including follow up meetings. Our staff thoroughly discusses the potential risks with each patient, and for this reason, we urge each patient to know where their closest medical facility may be located in the unlikely event that complications may arise.”
Acknowledging widespread concerns about the grave, life-threatening risks of administering abortion pills online, Helian added: “We do not agree with the notion that telehealth care puts patients at risk. Instead, we argue that by expanding care and access, telehealth clinics, like ours, can save lives.”
