Al Chet

Shalom Everyone,

We have been reflecting on our walk with HaShem during these 10 days of awe and on Monday, 9/25 is Yom Kippur – The Day of atonement. One of our congregational leaders has been sending daily reflections taken from Aish as encouragement for us to look inward. Our inward reflection is a way to examine what we need to work on in the coming New Year. As believers in Yeshua, we know we are dependent on Him to shed light on the dark areas within our hearts and to assist us in growing to be more like Him in order to please Abba. Below is one of the many reflections we received. I hope you will be blessed by the encouragement.

Al Chet Prayer

The Goal of Al Chet Is to Get to The Root of the Problem.  To become more like Yeshua and to become conformed to His Image and Torah is a process, it does not happen overnight.  The key is never to give up, because He does not give up on us.  We are all under construction and a work in process and this is the time to do spiritual housecleaning.

#27. For the sin we have sinned before You through haughtiness/arrogance.

Definition of haughtiness:  Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:  HAUGHTINESS, n. haughtiness.  The quality of being haughty; pride mingled with some degree of contempt for others; arrogance.

Isa. 2:11:  The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

When you look up scriptures referring to haughtiness, it always refers to those who are rebellious against G-D and His Ways and contempt for His people.

Jer. 48:29:  We have heard the pride of Moab (he is exceedingly proud), his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.

Haughtiness is a form of pride as well.

Prov. 8:13:  The fear of the LORD is to hate evil:  pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the forward mouth, do I hate.

Prov. 11:2:  When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Prov. 13:10:  Only by pride cometh contention:  but with the well advised is wisdom.

Prov. 14:3:  In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride:  but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Prov. 16:18:  Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

So what is the “cure” for haughtiness, arrogance and pride?

Humility:  Definition of Humility – YESHUA

Phil. 2:8:  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

James 4:10:  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1 Pet. 5:5, 6:  Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.  Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility:  for G-D resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of G-D, that he may exalt you in due time;

Matt. 18:4:  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

To walk in humility is to die to SELF or the ME, ME, ME, I, I, I syndrome.

Self-Conceit

Self-Righteousness

Self-Exaltation

Self-Consciousness

Self-Pity

Self-Destruction

Self-Centeredness

Matt. 23:11:  But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

Matt. 23:12:  And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

28. For the mistakes we committed before You by being arrogant.

The trait the Torah uses to describe Moses is “the humblest man.”  Humility is a key to spiritual growth, because it allows us to make room in our life for other people – and for G-D.

Ask yourself:  Have I made others feel lowly in order to raise myself higher?  Do I dress and speak in a way that draws extra attention to self?  When walking through a door, do I usually go first, or let others go first?

Good Husbands…

Sometimes we feel …

Recently, I read an article titled Why are all the good husbands already taken? The article was pretty interesting and thought worthy for all the single ladies out there who might be asking themselves the same question.

As the article stated there is a dating paradox: Why are all the good guys taken? Why are my friend’s husbands such amazing people and the guys a lot of us meet/date all seem to be missing something? What is that something?

According to the article, all the good guys are not taken. Being in love, loving someone and being loved by someone brings the best out in us. Have you ever noticed that especially in the beginning of a relationship? The individuals have a certain glow and even look better. I have noticed this glow or radiance in men who are loved and giving love. Their countenance is beautifully transformed. So, according to the article a guy in a loving relationship does have something that available guys do not have… and that is someone to love.

G-D created us to be in loving and harmonious relationships with each other, but especially our spouses. G-D stated in Genesis, it is not good for man to be alone. (Gen. 2:18) Therefore until our hearts are massaged by true love, first by G-D and then a loving mate, it can appear as if all the good husbands or men are taken. The human soul is meant to open up and connect with someone else. And, yet the human soul has to desire to live and love another.

Loving someone brings out the best in us. We feel alive, more vivid and our personalities blossom. It feels amazing to be loved and in a relationship that is mutually satisfying. In a loving relationship, especially a g-dly one, we feel free, more confident, content, beautiful and complete. On most days, the world seems wonderful and our marriage is our home. Remember, a harmonious, g-dly, loving relationship is the focus of this blog.

Obviously, we can share love with family and friends, even our enemies; but until we find that special someone, we are incomplete. When a biological male and a biological woman come together in the wisdom of the Creator, it is then they can begin the process of reflecting the image of G-D to each other and those around them.  It is imperative to remember that we are created in the image of G-D. Loving each other is a form of loving Him.

Remember, you can’t shop for a vehicle in someone else’s garage or shop for a dining set in someone else’s dining room. Nor can you expect someone to allow you to use their debit card to pay your monthly bills and expenses. (Exodus 20:17) And, you can’t compare the guys you date to your friend’s husbands, i.e., g-dly husbands.

Instead, be your best self and recognize some single men are incomplete without someone to love, just like you might feel incomplete without someone to love. In the meantime, set your standards high and stick to them; and live life to the fullest as you wait and desire a mate. Give your loneliness to the L-RD and prayerfully, your wait won’t be too long.

A Short Prayer

The Handiwork of G-D

Dearest Abba,

May your Name be kept holy among your people and your instructions fulfilled without grumbling and whining. May your people who are called by your name cherish YOU, respect YOU, obey YOU and honor YOU with all their hearts, minds and souls. May your people be the salt and light in the earth as you have demanded; and may you be pleased with the service of your people…for YOU are holy and worthy of all praise, honor and prestige. You are love and there is no one else who touches our hearts, provides and sustains like YOU. You are the G-D of mercy – not giving us what we deserve; and the G-D of grace offering us the gift of forgiveness in Yeshua.

Today, I lift up families, friends and our nation, the USA…please according to your tender mercies…bless, protect, and squash the evil which is seeking to kill, destroy and steal our very existence, in the name of Yeshua I humbly ask. You have also commanded that we pray for our enemies, so ABBA may our enemies be moved to graciousness and resolution with others as they see your light and hear your beckoning.

Today, I also lift up Israel because you said in your word to pray for the peace of Israel. I pray for your Shalom to surround them and keep them safe during their various trials and tribulations as they war against their neighbors. I pray that lasting peace will be realized for better living conditions for all.

As you know, there are wars all over the world and rumors of wars; famine, disease, and all sorts of devastating situations. And, though I fail to comprehend all the matters which are heart wrenching, I trust in YOU because you are still in charge and handling these situations as you see fit. However, I pray that you would aggressively move to bring healing, peace, forgiveness and more according to your will in the name of Yeshua. May your Kingdom come!

You are the G-D who sees and knows all things. Please move across the land of Israel, USA and the world in ways which defines who you are and impacts people for your glory. Thank you for listening to my prayer. I love you L-RD!

In Him,

Dr. Dee

Keep Praying…

This morning I read the entire book of Colossians, the letter from Yeshua’s Emissary Sha’ul to the Messianic Community in Colossians in the Complete Jewish Bible. As I read through G-D’s words this morning, I was profoundly reminded of the remarkable and incomprehensible love He has for His people. He demonstrated His amazing love through His son Yeshua providing redemption, i.e., the forgiveness of our sins and eternal salvation. Yeshua, who is the visible image of the invisible G-D, is supreme over all creation, and in connection with G-D created all things; those seen and unseen. [Col 1:14-16]

Rabbi Sha’ul wrote an eloquent prayer to the community of faithful believers that is appros for believers in Yeshua today.

Colossians 1:9 Therefore, from the day we heard of it, we have not stopped praying for you, asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will in all the wisdom and understanding which the Spirit gives; 10 so that you may live lives worthy of the Lord and entirely pleasing to him, being fruitful in every good work and multiplying in the full knowledge of God. 11 We pray that you will be continually strengthened with all the power that comes from his glorious might; so that you will be able to persevere and be patient in any situation, joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father for having made you fit to share in the inheritance of his people in the light. [ESB]

Are we praying for each other in the same manner that Sha’ul prayed for the community of Colossians? Are we modeling the profession of our lips in our homes, communities, workplaces, etc.? Do our lives represent fruitfulness and growing in full knowledge of our Master Yeshua? And if not, why?

Prayer, I believe, is one of our spiritual obligations, which draws us closer to the Father, strengthens our resolve, and keeps us focused on WHO is in charge, as well as reminds us of our fragility. I used the word obligations, which might imply a burdensome duty, but really prayer should be a want to, can’t wait to, need to, delightful and fulfilling time of loving and communicating with ABBA.

Prayer is a communication vehicle, which molds and empowers our relationship with HaShem. Prayer is our means of hearing and being equipped by ABBA to do His will. I believe that we must focus on prayer all through the day and night keeping ABBA first and foremost. Yeshua was very clear about prayer prior to His murder on the cross. He told His disciples to always pray to the Father on His merit and authority; and the Father would hear and answer their prayers. [John 16:23-24] Yeshua did not say to pray to Him. We have this same promise as we choose to be faithful to Yeshua and follow His commandments.

I also read an article from the Messiah Magazine, Issue 27, which First Fruits of Zion publishes. In this article which recounted various near-death-experiences, one individual who had an NDE found himself dead and before the throne of judgment. According to the article, the man was surprised by G-D’s mercy towards him. His confusion was resolved when he began hearing the prayers of his community through the angels. After returning to this realm, he related the exact details of the prayers to his community that he never heard before his NDE.

I have read many stories about the experiences of those who have what’s been coined NDE or near-death-experiences, but this was the first one which mentioned the profundity of prayers and actually hearing the prayers of others; and G-D displaying mercy based on the prayers of others for the person unaware. I hope that makes sense? Whether you believe this story or not, I believe our prayers are vital in this life for those we pray for irregardless if they know we are praying for them or not. I believe when we pray according to G-D’s will He answers those prayers according to what He deems is best.

Therefore, as we pray for one another, as well as ourselves, let us pray with eternity in mind, full of love and G-D’s best for each other. Let us pray that we will grow in faith and application as we navigate through this life, and let others see the fruit of our following Yeshua, so they might be drawn to Him.

My prayer for us: May the mediation of our hearts flow from our lips and may others recognize our commitment and love for our Creator and Savior through Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus the Christ. May we humbly serve as members of G-D’s Kingdom in ways which please Him. And, when we fail, quickly run to Him with contrite and sincere hearts knowing that He has promised to forgive and restore us. When our faith is weak and the burdens of this life overwhelming, may we ask ABBA for help to walk in the power of our comforter, the Holy Spirit knowing that He will reveal all truth to us and strengthen us. Help us to live demonstrating our love to You, ABBA and others by keeping your commandments. In the name of Yeshua.

Let us not be overwhelmed by fear, but in Him walk in the power of His love and mercy.

Growing in Him,

Dr. Dee

Divisiveness Everywhere

Divisiveness is Destroying America - Renew Democracy Initiative
Photo taken from Google: RDI (Renew Democracy Initiative)

It is everywhere…Look at some of the sporting events and backs are being turned to the flag during the National Anthem while representing the United States of America! Unbelievable! Leaders in this country declaring that African Americans are still in slavery, oppressed, shackled, poor, mentally incompetent and without hope! Really?! White people are the oppressors and should spend the rest of their lives apologizing for the sins of their forefathers and live in shame and regret just for being white! Really?! Critical race theorists… How woke is this?

Divisiveness is a glaring flare in our society today! We, Americans are divided across all lines in every single area of our lives. We are divided from the white house to the poor house; from the rich to the poor; from the educated to the uneducated; from family members to enemies; from cultures, race, ethnicity, gender, religious persuasion, political affiliation, and the list goes on! Listening to the news and seeing the debacle of this country under the present leadership is exhausting at best and disheartening to say the least. There are few positive words for what we see in current America. But, with G-D…our hope is not in vain.

If you turn away from following Him, He will once more abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people” (Numbers 32:15)

Is this verse not apropos for what is happening in America today? As a nation, have we obeyed the teachings of our G-D? Have we not turned away from Him? Have we obeyed Him (the One true and living G-D) from the depth of our souls to our outward appearance displayed to others? What are we doing to show our love and worship to our Creator, Abba? Are we doing anything or are we sitting waiting to be slaughtered like stupid sheep? Do we believe in the verse “…occupy until I come.” (Luke 19:13) Do we even care?

Each of us has to answer the aforementioned questions and more for ourselves. No one can make anyone do anything. However, our apathy for our community/country and others affects each of us. Now, I completely understand biblical prophecy and the things to come in terms of destruction and eventual newness. Biblical prophecy is not the point of this blog.

My premise, we are to do the work of Abba as if He will never return; AND  as if he is returning in the next few minutes. Henceforth, when He does return; He is pleased with our service. At the end of the day all that we see around us…political mayhem, death, destruction, poverty, murder, theft, terrorism, human trafficking, etc. are all byproducts of evil. Our job as believers in the most HIGH G-D is to be the salt and light in a dying world and to be actively involved in making a positive difference.

What is our job? (No particular order and a partial list)

  • Prayers…our families, our country, our friends, our co-workers, our enemies
  • Read G-D’s Word and Believe it
  • Repent and seek the grace, wisdom, direction of the Father
  • Build a relationship with Abba (Father, G-D) in order to grow spiritually
  • Speak the truth of G-D’s Word
  • Get involved…financially, volunteer, write letters, share your gifts
  • Look and act like you believe in the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe
  • Cast down ungodly fear
  • Cast down hatred, bitterness, anger and malice – ask for forgiveness
  • Seek G-D daily and constantly
  • Do it all again each and every day.

Romans 16:17–18 (ESV): I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.  For such persons do not serve our L0rd Christ, (Yeshua the Messiah)  but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

Let us not be deceived, lazy, apathetic or walk in self-idolatry. Let us be mindful of the divisiveness nipping at us each day, which attempts to silence our voices and snuff out our witness. Let us choose to walk in the faith and boldness which only comes from belonging to Yeshua (Jesus) and doing G-D’s will. Let us distance ourselves from those who desire to deceive, kill and destroy, but remember to pray for them. (Matt. 5:43)

Prayer: Abba, we worship and adore You because You are worthy of all the praise, glory, honor and more. Thank you for giving us access to You through Your Son, Yeshua and our Savior. Forgive us our transgressions please, and teach us how to live in ways which honor  You. Then boldly lead us to accomplish Your purposes for Your glory. As You commanded we lift up our enemies and ask that you destroy their works.

Much love and gratitude towards You Abba for all things. In Yeshua,  I pray. Amen.

Shalom,

Dr. Dee

Prayer for Israel

The Promise from the Heavens Photograph by Jerry McElroy

Dearest Abba,

Today, I lift up Israel because you said in your word to pray for the peace of Israel. (Psalm 122:6) I pray for your Shalom to surround them and keep them safe during their various trials and tribulations as they war with their neighbors. You are the G-D who sees and knows all things. Move across the land of Israel in a way which defines who YOU are and impacts the communities for YOUR glory. Thank you for listening to my prayer. I love you L-RD!

Day of Prayer

Today is National and Global Day of Prayer, September 26, 2020.

Let us pray for our nation today and every day; repent from our wickedness as a nation and individually, which  grieves the heart of our Creator, G-D, and Savior of this United States of America and this world.

Let us love one another in spite of our diverse differences!

Let us know and respond accordingly that peace will NEVER come about through violence, but only through repentance and our love first for our G-D and King and then for one another!

Let us look to ABBA (Father, G-D) for all that we need for HIS LOVE IS RUNNING AFTER US TO RETURN TO HIM.

Repent for the Kingdom of G-D is at hand.

In Him,

Dr. Dee

David…A Man After Him

How could King David be considered a man after G-d’s heart? Didn’t he commit murder, adultery? Wasn’t he a man of war and a liar? Yet, he was considered by G-d, a man after His heart! Interesting! I had a discussion with a friend on this point the other day in passing, and I found my efforts to help him see David as a man after G-d’s heart, futile. So, I decided to dig a little deeper to discover what made David so special in His eyes.

David is the only man who bears the inscription, a man after G-d’s own heart (1Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22) The name David in Hebrew means beloved and anyone who has attended a Synagogue or Church knows the story of the boy who slew the giant Goliath. Yet, we also know that David was a great and mighty king of Israel who also failed miserably. There are many reasons why David was called a man after G-d’s own heart, and if you compare the historical background of David against the ruling king prior to him, Saul, you will see why. I found three important universal reasons worth sharing.

David had unwavering faith

Before David slew the giant Goliath, he declared, The L-RD who delivered me from the paw of -the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, ‘Go, and the L-RD be with you! (I Samuel 17:37) He had to depend completely on G-d in order to go forth as a boy to fight a giant with a rock and sling. His complete faith in G-d, pleased G-d. G-d desires our complete trust and faith in Him when we face various giants in our lives. I believe having complete faith in G-d is being completely convinced that He will act on our behalf; and being fully committed to His process. Is this easy? Certainly not, but we can grow in faith if we choose to believe and depend on Him.

David was grateful and He loved the Word of G-d.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! (Psalm 100:4, ESV)

For I delight in Your commands because I love them. I lift up my hands to Your commands, which I love, and I meditate on Your decrees. (Psalm 119:47-48)

David is credited for writing over half of the Psalms, which are filled with awe, gratitude and a deep love for G-d and His Word. David, though riddled with failures as a king and a father, sought G-d’s face. David modeled a man after G-d’s heart, because he understood who was the ultimate King and Sovereign over the entire Universe. Who is Sovereign over your life?

David Repented

David’s infamous sins of adultery and murder confuse many of us as to how this man was so honored by G-d. Yet, after David committed his evil acts, he repented. David did not make excuses, but boldly admitted his failures. David ran to G-d and poured out his heart to the only One who could forgive and redeem him. Psalm 51:1-2 are the beginning words to David’s prayer of repentance to G-d:

Have mercy on me, O G-d, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! (Psalm 51:1–2)

Psalm 42:1

David had a tender heart, unlike his processor, and this tender heart and deep love for G-d, I believe, earned him the epitaph of a man’s own heart after G-d. David had a soul that panted after G-d and understood his weaknesses as a man. Fortunately, G-d does not judge and see as other humans do, or even as we see ourselves. His judgment is based on His divine purposes, tender mercies and love.

We too, are riddled with failures, lusts and all matters of evil whether we choose to admit it or not. Our experiences on this earth have clouded our judgment, and often times have cloaked us in an egotistical self-delusional fog. Our hope lies not in our own devices, and grandeur narcissistic efforts, but in the One True G-d and Savior who came that we might life.

Now, I know there are many of you who do not believe in the salvation which is offered in Yeshua (Jesus), and certainly that is your right. However, for those who do seek His face and choose His saving grace, then it is safe to say that David left a model for all us to consider and to carry out in our lives.

David’s life must be examined in the context of the time he lived and the purposes of G-d for Israel,  and not from a current New Testament lens or self-righteousness. Therefore, for anyone to think they can intentionally live a life of lust, murder, and debauchery, and think they can just ask for forgiveness as they go on their merry way, miss the great example David left for us, and miss seeing the weakness of this king.

G-d is never impressed with the outward appearance of religiosity. He looks on the heart of a person. He examines each person’s motives. G-d, I believe understands our frailty better than we do, and I believe because of His magnificent and incomprehensible love for us, he willing forgives us when we seek Him. I contend, that we are all a David, weak, frail, in need of G-d’s mercy and strength that only His under-girding can offer. However, we too can be a David when we walk in unwavering faith, gratitude, love for G-d’s Word, His salvation plan, and repentance.

As always, the choice is ours. Who will you choose today?
