Germany, Britain Sign Defense Cooperation Declaration

BERLIN/LONDON (Worthy News) – In a move unthinkable decades ago, former World War Two foes Britain and Germany have signed a defense cooperation declaration.

Both nations pledged to work more closely to strengthen their defense industries, reinforce European security, and support Ukraine’s fight to repel Russian forces.

John Healey, Britain’s new defense minister, signed the pact in Germany’s capital, Berlin, where he met German counterpart Boris Pistorius this week

“Our new defense declaration between the UK and Germany will kickstart a deep, new defense relationship, built on our nations’ shared values,” Healey added in comments obtained by Worthy News.

Britain said Healey’s visit is part of a two-day trip that includes stops in France, Poland, and Estonia to outline the new Labour government’s commitment to deepen defense ties with European Union allies.

“In France, Poland, and Estonia, we will continue to strengthen our defense ties with our European Allies – as we all stand steadfast behind Ukraine,” the minister added.

New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also clarified that he wants Britain to increase cooperation with European allies on defense and security to support Ukraine better.

Starmer also proposed a “UK-European Union security pact” to cover areas such as energy supplies and migration, despite Britain leaving the EU in 2020.

“In our third week, this government is getting on with the job and resetting our relationships with European allies to make Britain secure at home and strong abroad. These visits send a clear message that European security will be this government’s first foreign and defense priority,” Healey stressed.
