Israel Airstrikes Target Former Assad Regime Bases in Southern Syria

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Israeli jets carried out multiple strikes on former Syrian army barracks and outposts in the southern Daraa province on Monday, marking the latest in a series of attacks aimed at the country’s military infrastructure since the fall of the Assad regime, Reuters News Agency reports.

Reuters reported that two Syrian sources said at least six airstrikes hit a former Assad military base in the town of Jbab, and another army base in the city of Izraa was struck by at least eight more. There were no immediate casualty reports.

“The Israeli occupation aircraft carried out several strikes on the surroundings of the towns of Jbab and Izraa in the north of Daraa,” reported the Syrian state news agency SANA.

Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad, Israeli officials have pledged to demilitarize the area of southern Syria near Israel’s border.

Last week, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz labeled interim Syrian leader Sharaa “a jihadist terrorist of the al-Qaeda school who is committing horrifying acts against a civilian population.”  Over the weekend, minority groups were targeted by the newly instituted regime.

Syria’s Islamist-led government announced on Monday the completion of a “military operation” in which over 1,000 people, including Christians, were killed during two days of clashes, according to various war monitors.
