(Worthy News) – President-elect Donald Trump responded Wednesday to news that FBI Director Christopher Wray would resign when Trump takes office in January.
“The resignation of Christopher Wray is a great day for America as it will end the Weaponization of what has become known as the United States Department of Injustice,” Trump said in a statement Wednesday.
Wray and the FBI have been under fire from conservatives for years for their role in spying on the Trump campaign and raiding Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home for classified documents, among other questions about their treatment of conservatives.
Trump appointed Wray to lead the FBI during his first term, but the new FBI head fell out of Trump’s favor.
“I just don’t know what happened to him,” Trump continued. “We will now restore the Rule of Law for all Americans. Under the leadership of Christopher Wray, the FBI illegally raided my home, without cause, worked diligently on illegally impeaching and indicting me, and has done everything else to interfere with the success and future of America.”
Trump recently announced that lawyer and former DOJ prosecutor Kash Patel was his pick to head the FBI.
Wray’s resignation comes three years before he finished his ten-year term in the role. Trump had not yet announced he would fire Wray, despite announcing Patel as his pick.
“My goal is to keep the focus on our mission – the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people every day,” Wray told FBI employees at a town hall where he announced his decision, according to NPR. “In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.”
Patel still faces confirmation in the Senate. Trump’s pick continues a theme of aggressive new leaders who plan to shake things up in Washington, D.C. from Pete Hegseth pledging to root out wokeness at the Department of Defense to Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy aiming to fire thousands of federal employees.
Patel has been an outspoken critic of federal law enforcement and its use of surveillance. He has also called for an investigation into how the billions of taxpayer dollars sent to Ukraine were used.
“They have used their vast powers to threaten and destroy many innocent Americans, some of which will never be able to recover from what has been done to them,” Trump said. “Kash Patel is the most qualified Nominee to lead the FBI in the Agency’s History, and is committed to helping ensure that Law, Order, and Justice will be brought back to our Country again, and soon. As everyone knows, I have great respect for the rank-and-file of the FBI, and they have great respect for me.”
Democrats have been critical of many of Trump’s nominees, Patel included. Whether Patel can get the votes needed in the Senate remains to be seen.
