Congressional Approval Hits Historic Low Amid Gridlock, Poll Finds

(Worthy News) – American confidence in Congress has plunged to near-record lows, with just 10% of U.S. adults approving of how lawmakers are handling their jobs, according to a new survey from Gallup.

The poll found that 86% of respondents disapprove of Congress—matching the highest level of dissatisfaction ever recorded. The findings reflect deep frustration across the political spectrum as legislative gridlock continues to dominate Washington.

Analysts pointed to several contributing factors behind the dismal numbers, including the ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security and stalled momentum surrounding the proposed “Save America Act,” a high-profile voter ID bill backed by Republicans.

Approval of the current 119th Congress had briefly climbed to 31% in March 2025 but has steadily declined since then, underscoring growing public dissatisfaction with both parties’ inability to advance key priorities.

Within Republican ranks, pressure has intensified on Senate leadership to push the legislation forward. Some conservatives have called for a “talking filibuster” or even the elimination of the filibuster rule altogether. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has so far resisted those efforts.

The Gallup survey was conducted between April 1 and April 15, polling 1,001 U.S. adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
